Immediacy, youth, and freshness Immediacy, youth, and freshness. These are the three characteristics that intersect in the boom of spaces for young artists in Madrid. We explore this new map of storefronts, galleries, and “project spaces” scattered from north to south.<\/em><\/p>\n\n

Young galleries are also needed, especially now that Garc\u00eda Galer\u00eda has disappeared. Intersticio, which, like The Ryder, was born in London as a project space, opened two weeks ago (on Alc\u00e1ntara Street, 37, very close to Sala Amad\u00eds), with a collective exhibition that serves as a good introduction. “Clear of the Forest” unfolds between the ritual, the mystical, and the magical because, in a way, embarking on a new project has something of that nature. Behind it are Cristina Herraiz, Sol Abaurrea, and Ana Coronel de Palma, all with experience in national and international galleries. The two-story space is generous, and from this initial selection, we deduce that there will be a lot of sculpture and performance<\/em>, names of artists from this generation without representation in Madrid galleries, and a fresh aesthetic. Most of the works are recent, something to be appreciated. Noteworthy, surprisingly: the reception desk covered in wax by the artist-designer Andr\u00e9s Izquierdo and the “Fountain of Talismans” (2020) by Julia Crehueras, a hypnotic piece articulated through a silver thread from which small objects fall, merging into a pool of gallium, where the subtle, the poetic, and the mechanical intersect. The ground floor is the most esoteric, bathed in the astral audio-letter by Paul Maheke, which immerses us in an occult ceremony through red curtains. There are also interesting pieces by Luc\u00eda Bay\u00f3n, Nora Aurrekoetxea, and Diego Delas.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
