Lucía Bayón has been selected to do a residency at Gasworks London
lasting eleven weeks, from April 8 to June 24, 2024.
Working with sculpture and, occasionally, writing, Lucía Bayón’s practice focuses on processes of disarticulation and reconstruction of materials. It combines manual and industrial production methods to question material hierarchies and manufacturing conditions. This practice develops as a circuit of gradual transformation that entangles the residual in a slow becoming.
During her stay at Gasworks, Lucía will respond to ideas of deconstruction. Through the words of Anne Carson, Lyn Hejinian, Gertrude Stein and Simone Weil, among others, she will produce work that combines language and materiality, attempting to understand their formal dynamism: their type, direction, speed and movement.
This research and ongoing work will be on display on June 15, when Gasworks
celebrate its next edition of Open Studios.
