Martin Llavaneras’s practice (Lleida, 1983) is situated within the field of sculpture, understood as a process that links matter, body, and environment.
His recent work focuses on water infrastructures and the ways in which their management systems transform the landscape. This research extends to writing and toponymy as sculptural forms, where language itself functions as a material in transformation.
Through gestures such as accumulating, folding, or sedimenting, his practice reveals how sculpture, industrial raw materials, and nature intertwine and reconfigure one another. He holds a degree in Fine Arts from the University of the Basque Country (UPV) and studied at HTW Berlin and the University of Barcelona (UB).
He has held solo exhibitions at La Capella (Barcelona), Fundació Joan Miró (Barcelona), Centre d’Art La Panera (Lleida), Raccoon (Hospitalet de Llobregat), POLS València), CentroCentro (Madrid), and Montehermoso (Vitoria).
He has taken part in group exhibitions at institutions and venues such as the Centre del Carme Cultura Contemporània (València), CAPC — Musée d’Art Contemporain de Bordeaux (Bordeaux), ADA Project (Rome), Yaby (Madrid), Meetfactory (Prague), House of Egorn (Berlin), Atelier35 (Bucharest), and Saliva (Barcelona), among others.
He has received grants and awards such as BBVA Leonardo, Barcelona Producció, Premi Art Nou, Injuve, Sala Art Jove, and the Guasch-Coranty Grant. He has undertaken residencies at CA2M (Madrid), AC/E – Fundación María José Jove (Guadalajara, Mexico), Centre d’Art i Natura (Farrera), and MUSAC (León).
