Andrés Izquierdo

(ES, 1993)

Andrés’s practice is often articulated around transmutational and cosmological movements. Through sculpture, drawing, and installation, he evokes experiences of a territory and its underlying processes, paying particular attention to its vital cycles.

In the studio, the material becomes charged with affective sensations: blockage, impulsivity, insecurity, repression, excitement or fear.

Andrés focuses on states of depression where vulnerability is felt as a descent/ascent. From an interest in despondency; tenderness and pareidolia emerge as possibilities to accompany loss.

Through processes of collection,  melting, firing, and reassembling, Andrés brings movement to what might otherwise be fixed.

Moons in mitosis, unfolding and holding onto each other; angelical beings between the magical and the precarious; synthetic flowers collected in cemeteries; celestial bodies of wax entering into the earth.

Some of his recent exhibitions and awards include: Doble sueño de primavera, in collaboration with Javi Cruz, Galería Belmonte (Madrid, 2025) , Ensanchar la puerta, curated by Joaquín García, Centro Centro, (Madrid, 2024) Material, (CDMX, 2023), Circuitos XXXIII Premio de artes plásticas, Sala de Arte Joven (Madrid, 2022) We belong to each other, curated by Chus Martíez, Carlier Gebauer (Berlin, 2022), Sociedad Concreta curated by Fernández Pello, Galería The Goma, (Madrid 2022).

Andrés currently works between Madrid and Carrascosa (Cuenca), the village from which his recent research originates, focusing on the forms and traces of abandonment and the processes of decomposition/composition occurring in its environment.
