    ALAS DE PAPEL

Alas de papel is an educational project and experimental lab for children,
initiated by Marian Brea and Julia Creuheras. The workshop has been part of the CaixaProinfancia program, an initiative supporting children and families, and has taken place as an extracurricular activity in collaboration with Save The Children in Barcelona. It is specially designed for children aged 6 to 12.
The project stems from the artists shared research into the ornithopter —a mechanical bird with articulated wings- and the technical aspects of its flight. The workshop invites children to explore non-verbal expression and hands-on experimentation through the theme of birds and fying. Each participant builds their own flying mechanical bird using a simple crank and rubber band system that, when wound and released, makes the wings flap and the bird lift off briefly. The wings are made of various types of paper, decorated by the children. At the end, they launch their creations into flight.
This activity introduces basic mechanical concepts while encouraging imagination, creativity, and play in a safe and stimulating environment where each child can explore freely.
Asociación Misión de María has been working since 2021 to support, welcome, and help reintegrate families facing especially vulnerable situations due to personal or social circumstances.
