| Residencias Artísticas Internacionales Centro
Martin Llavaneras and Elena Matamoro are the resident artists in this program promoted by the Centro de Arte Fundación María José Jove (FMJJ) and Acción Cultural Española (AC/E). This artistic residency aims primarily to facilitate cultural exchange between Spain and Latin America, as well as to generate collaborative networks that strengthen cultural interrelations between both regions.
The residency period lasts six weeks, from November to December 2024, and will take place at Casa Mucha Guadalajara. Each selected participant receives financial support of 1,500 euros for daily expenses, 1,500 euros for project production costs, travel expenses (Spain–Mexico–Spain), travel medical insurance, accommodation and workspace, assistance and support during the project, as well as promotion of the project and a public presentation.
Martin Llavaneras (El Segrià, 1983) lives and works in Barcelona. He studied Fine Arts at UPV (Bilbao, Spain), HTW (Berlin, Germany), and UB (Barcelona, Spain). He works mainly in the field of sculpture, often in relation to the natural and industrial transformation processes of inorganic, biological, and linguistic materials. The artist studies these cycles and intervenes in them to modify their dynamics and participate in the management, arrangement, and shaping of these materials.
He investigates infrastructures such as canals, irrigation ditches, and cisterns that support agricultural and livestock production, and how these liquid and material distribution structures can be integrated into sculpture. He studies how solid materials such as wheat, corn, and barley are displaced and transformed into organic resins (starch) for the creation of sculptures. His work explores ideas such as storage, circulation, and oxidation, among others.
Elena Matamoro (Vigo, 1999) is an artist whose work establishes a relationship between art, gender, and nature, with a focus on sound creation and performance. Matamoro (Vigo, 1999) lives and works between Vigo and Basel. She studied Fine Arts at the University of Vigo (2015–2019) and completed a master’s degree in Art, Gender and Nature at the Hochschule für Gestaltung und Kunst (HGK) in Basel, Switzerland (2021–2023).
Her project is based on reflecting on how human and natural spaces coexist, and how this dialogue can be reinterpreted through installation, sound, and performance. The proposal connects with the landscape of Guadalajara, where she seeks to translate the structure of its streets into a sound and visual composition. The project will draw inspiration from the observation of the environment and the reinterpretation of the region’s traditional ceramics, creating a three-dimensional score that allows the city to be “sounded out” through sculptural and sonic forms.
The call was aimed at Spanish nationals dedicated to contemporary artistic practices in any discipline.
